Seward, a Klondike Gold Rush-era military post in Haines, Alaska, was completed in 1904 to bring order to unruly gold seekers during the gold rush and provide a military presence in Alaska during the gold rush boundary disputes with Canada. The fort was decommissioned in 1945. In the background is the Chilkat River.
