Upland sandpiper

An upland sandpiper rests on a fence post along a country road in the Flint Hills of Kansas east of the town of Cassoday in Butler County Kansas. The upland sandpiper is not associated with water like other sandpipers instead it nests and feeds on the prairie. The bird travels long distances, wintering in the pampas (prairies) of Argentina.
